(Source: Facebook)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Britain&#8217;s Home Office <a href=\"https:\/\/homeofficemedia.blog.gov.uk\/2020\/02\/19\/points-based-immigration-system-latest-information\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> that EU artists and performers will need to apply for a Tier 5 visa to work in the UK once the Brexit transition comes to an end in December.<\/p>\n<p>This controversial decision will halt freedom of movement for any live performers between the UK and the EU. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/tier-5-government-authorised-exchange\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Tier 5 visa<\/a> will cost performers up to \u00a3244 and requires a certificate of sponsorship. Once granted, the permit will last between 12 to 24 months.<\/p>\n<p>There have been a lot of disagreements on this subject within the UK government, Culture Minister Nigel Adams stated last month that \u201cit was absolutely essential\u201d to protect free movement for artists post 2020 in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/live\/read\/culture-minister-nigel-adams-on-brexit-free-movement-for-artists-is-absolutely-essential\/078659\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">interview<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/musicweekinsta\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Music Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Music industry groups in the UK have started petitions demanding a free or affordable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/government-parliament-let-touring-musicians-travel-support-musicians-working-in-the-eu-post-brexit-workingintheeu\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">two-year working visa<\/a> for artists and performers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Busy P performing at the XOYO Club in London.
