IKEA Discontinues Vinyl Shelves

IKEA is discontinuing their EXPEDIT line of shelving which is widely popular among music fans across the world. The shelves are considered by many enthusiasts to be the best option for storing vinyl.

The news was first reported in Germany which led to the formation of a German-based Facebook page to protest the decision. The page has amassed nearly 14,000 likes since launching on January 14.

IKEA’s decision comes despite a huge increase in vinyl sales over the last few years. In 2013, sales increased by 30%, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

It’s not all doom and gloom for collectors though: Dangerous Minds reports that IKEA has announced a similar line of shelving called KALLAX which also fits vinyl.

Shout out to our German team for breaking the news to us. RIP EXPEDIT.
